Welcome to our new Lt.Commander in charge of 'the hubnugget wannabe campaign' Simone ===============>

We love her already, our new Lt.Commander in charge of 'the hubnugget wannabe campaign' Simone's first official act was to convey the best wishes along with a half dozen cases of ice-wine from a grateful-to-have-come-out-of-surgery-alive patient, to us, the 'nugget picker team'. And she even gave us a 4 day/weekend shore leave.

Last week we again had done the impossible, we read and read and we chose another 18 fabulous hubs out of many hundreds, in three categories. It boggles my mind of how multi-faceted this nugget picker job really is on top of everything else we were also 'acting doctors of the week' (to be a doc of the week, you have to be able to say 'neurosurgicalisticicalichista consult' 10 times... fast, without stumbling)...

Anyways to get back to my report, us docs, not only were we able to save many, many lives last week but also the Hubnugget wannabes. And we were still able send them to Hubpages headquarters on Minna street ON TIME for publishing. Which was 'No small feet' let me tell ya', (whose feet are they talking aboot anyway?) haha just kidding 'feat...' is the right word.

We were all happily sitting around in Skipper Shirley's ready room enjoying a tall glass (or two or three +++) of our gifted to us ice-wine debating where we should go for our 4 day-leave. As the nugget picker team consists of 3 Canucks, 2 Yanks and an Aussie Platypus (who is game for anything, as long as it has something to do with partying), well we, thought it would be a great idea to start with the Canada day (July1st) celebrations then continue the partying down south of the border in the US on the 4th of July.

So the plan was to start out in south-western Ontario first with Captn' Shirley's family then with my gang (Zsuzsy Bee's) and as there is a timezone delay we then would flit over to the West coast and finish off Canada-day with RedElf's kitties and kin.

We, the canucks were getting into our tourist guide garb and ready to show off just how beautiful our Canada is by low-fly-overs over some of the most fabulous and famous sights. We then could leisurely head back for our visit with good old Uncle Sam on Sunday the 4th of July at SciPi's in Ohio and B.T. homestead in Michigan.

We were hoping against hope and crossing our fingers and eyes. Hobbling around so we would not have to untangle our crossed toes that our broken-mirror-activated-7-year-bad-luck streak was going to give us a break. We were going to relax and have fun but every little sound, every little crackle, gurgle and whistling noise, that came from the area where the accursed piece of outer space furnishing hung made us jumpy.

The only thing we had to do is send in our choices on Friday for this weeks hubnugget wannabes. Which was again a very fine crop of nuggets. I'm sure you will agree.

The rest of the time was going to be our PARTY TIME! Rock on EH!

The original name for Canada, dreamed up by a parliamentary committee in London, was "Cold North Dominion," but that was too long, so they abbreviated it C.N.D. The King's Royal Governor presented the new name to the inhabitants, and they didn't say a word. Just looked at him.

"Well, what do you think?" asked the Royal Governor.

"C., eh?" said the first fellow, and just looked at the Governor.

"N., eh?" says the second guy.

"D., eh?" says a third one. Then silence.

"Hey," says the Governor. "I like that. It's a helluva lot easier to pronounce when you spell it that way."

So that's how Canada got its name.

"Eh?" is a very important part of our vocabulary and we Canadians understand all of the hundreds of different meanings and nuances of "eh", eh?

~eat chocolate bars, not candy bars.
~drink Pop, not Soda
~love our Poutine (French fries topped with cheese curds and hot gravy)
~carry empty beer cans home from our camping trips so we can recycle them
~understand the phrase "Could you pass me a serviette, I just dropped my poutine on the chesterfield"
~know that a Mickey and 24's mean, "party at the camp, eh!!!"
~know that a pike is a type of fish, not part of a highway
~drive on a highway, not a freeway
~know what a toque is
~design our children's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, just in case of a trick-or-treating time blizzard
~call it a Bun not a "Roll"
~call a WASHROOM a washroom and not a rest room, powder room or lavatory
~fill in the missing 'u's into the words labor, honor, flavor, color etc. in non-Canadian books
~have Canadian Tire money in our kitchen drawers
~have worn shorts and a parka at the same time
~measure distances in how many hours it takes to drive
~have 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction
~leave cars worth thousands, in the driveway and store our junk in the garage

Q: Will I be able to see Polar Bears in the street?(USA)
A: Depends how much you've been drinking.

Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto - can I follow the railroad tracks? (Sweden)
A: Sure, it's only Four thousand miles, take lots of water.

Q: Which direction is North in Canada? (USA)
A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions.

Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada? (UK)
A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.

Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada, but I forget its name. It's a kind of big horse with horns. (USA)
A: It's called a Moose. They are tall and very violent, eating the brains of anyone walking close to them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking.

Over the outside speaker at the Tim Horton's drive-through it might sound like "gobble-gobble" but we're not talking turkey here... we're ordering our "double-double" coffee with two cream and two sugar.

~They ride dog sleds everywhere
~Polar bears and moose roam in their backyards
~Canadians are lumberjacks and fur traders
~It snows year round

A Canadian is someone who wears English tweeds, a Hong Kong shirt and shoes made in Spain, who sips Brazilian coffee sweetened with sugar brought in from the Philippines out of a fine Bavarian cup while nibbling Swiss cheese on Irish soda crackers, after coming home in a German car from an Italian movie...

and then sits down at a Danish desk set over a Persian rug, and writes to a Member of Parliament with a Japanese ballpoint pen on French paper, demanding that he do something about foreigners taking away all our Canadian jobs."

As a Canadian, we have to be extra vigilant. There are a lot of impostors out there. If we suspect  someone is falsely trying to pass themselves off as a Canadian, we make the following statement - and then carefully watch their reaction:

"Last night, I went to buy a mickey of C.C. at the liquor store, but my skidoo got stuck in the muskeg on my way back to the duplex. I was trying to deke out a deer, you see. Damn chinook, melted everything. And then a Mountie snuck up behind me in a ghost car and gave me an impaired. I was S.O.L., sitting there dressed only in my Stanfields and a toque at the time. And the Mountie, he's all chippy and everything, calling me a "shit disturber" and what not. What could I say, except, "Sorry, EH!"

If the person we're talking to nods sympathetically, they're one of us, the real McCoy. If, however, they stare with a blank incomprehension, then they're not real Canadian and should be reported to the authorities at once.

I'm whispering, as I don't want to awaken that cursed mirror. We made it through Canada Day, without it activating and flinging us, into who knows what time and place. Let's hope that we're going to be able to stick around for the 4th of July celebrations too.
