Presenting, Predicted to be Great: the First Hubnugget Wannabe List of 2010!
67The best times of the year for storytelling here in Canada is in the winter months. When the wind howls a mean streak and the snow flies and collects up in ‘man’ high drifts in the center of my driveway. We can all be curled up in front of the fireplace all cozy in our snugglees. (blankets with sleeves, you can do anything while wearing them…knit, call your friends on the phone, or even hold a baby out in the cold while your all nice and snuggly warm…sorry I’m on a tangent again and this is not an infomercial). We can be sipping hot apple cider, spiked of course, or hot toddies, which ever you prefer and listen to some great fables.
So come on in and plop your butt on a big cushy pillow (…no, I did not say you had a big butt) just grab a seat already, I have one fantastic, almost unbelievable tale to tell.
Once upon a time, in the deepest, deepest, scariest and darkest jungles of California , (I’m referring to the urban jungle of course) on Minna Street in San Francisco, to be exact there on the third floor lives a secret tribe of super-techno-savvies. Where the head honchos, Paul-D the medicine man, Paul-E and Jay-R with the help of Maddie, Jason, Fawntia, Larry, and the rest of the gang are overseeing a wild and often outspoken native tribe called Hubpages.
The village is filled to overflowing with super talented writers that create many, many fantastic stories, articles and tales called hubs. Unfortunately like in every story there has to be the villains, the ones that create havoc just for the sake of it. Here in the fabulous Village of Hubpages those are the ones that pretend to be writers and they're called the spam & excrement-spreaders, forum trolls and plagiarizers… a terrible and scary breed all of their own. We do not however want to talk about these evils in our tale today because that just eggs them on to spread no-good and more mayhem…
Our tale today is centered
around the pleasant task of welcoming newbies, in particular the hubnuggeteers
into our midst by recognizing some of their great hub contributions, 'the hubnugget wannabes'. For this there was a special task force set up, I lovingly call them ‘nugget-pickers’.
They each wade through thousands of new hubs every week. This is when the 'nugget picking' job can get tough because each of those hubs sits on its line of the list shouting "pick me, pick me, pick me....." others just dance a jig to get our attention.
(yes, I talk to myself too... although my intelligent answers are sometimes a little slow in coming)
The criteria to be considered a ‘hubnugget wannabe’ is as followes
A HubNugget Wannabe is a great hub written within the past seven days by a new, less then two months old hubber. It is then chosen by the team and added onto the list of the current week's HubNugget contest.
Although this list of new hubber hubs is vast (thousands and thousands of hubs), the team narrows the number of choices down to just ten. Those ten finalists are then showcased in the weekly HubNuggets hub, whereupon open voting begins via a poll capsule.
A few how to write great HubNuggets Tips
- Write your Hub on an interesting topic filled with original content
- Write from your experience or point of view
- About 750-1000 words or so is a good length
- Give it an attention grabbing title
- Check your spelling and grammar
- Emphasize the content with some photos and or a relevant video
- Give photo/video source acknowledgements
- Add links and RSS feeds
As the story unfolds here are some of the main characters (and when I say characters I really mean characters).
Two of our hubnugget team work in the head honchos hut. They are Maddie Rudd, who is the Hub Pages Moderator and Communicator of Awesome Fairness and Jason Menayan, who is head Guru of Marketing. Both along with their regular duties take care of the technical mumbo jumbo stuff that has to be done to have a smooth running 'hubnugget wannabe department'.
The team uses their special powers that were given to them disguised in (…come closer everyone…I only want to whisper this because we do not want everyone to know…) the special powers were disguised in crystal balls. To join the team we all had to prove that we had the extra eye which we hide well under our kerchiefs and our two 'four legg-y' members cover it up with their fur.
Let me introduce our fearless team leader, the Oracle of hubnugget-land Shirley Anderson. She lives in an eighteen-room igloo high up on a mountain in Ontario in the midst of mysterious Canada. If you want to know the meaning of life (in hubland) there are two ways of getting a hold of her. First: you will need to fast for six and a half days, drink only mountain fresh spring water or vodka spritzers. You will need to use dog-sleds and snow-shoes as soon as you cross the border into Canada. (you can hire guides and 'Musher-team-taxis' the minute you get past customs. There will be a few roadside questionnaires in the form of riddles you will have to answer. (Sorry the mushers are not permitted to give hints, so do not ask)
Or the Second way: You can contact her by e-mail...yes, you're right it might sound a bit easier but it's definitely less fun than heading into the white wilderness of mysterious Canada.
Patty Inglish, MS is a Freelance writer, (dishing out often two fantastic hubs a day) she is fluent in many languages, and martial arts. Including to all that, she is a clairvoyant extraordinaire with extra eyes even in the back of her head. She can find hubnugget wannabes by the dozen every week.
B.T. EvilPants, who is a Freelance writer, Jackalope-of-all-trades, connoisseur of butter tarts. He receives his extra vibes when he connects the, specially built for him crystal ball to the prongs of his majestic antlers.
B.T. the famous Jack-a-lope also has extra sensory abilities that he uses to sniff out new hubnuggeteers and the best of their best hubs to add to the list of hubnugget wannabes.
RedElf is so full of energy she can’t sit still to read her crystal ball, she does pull-up's by the dozens. She relies on her whisker twitches to notify her whenever there is a purrrfect hubnugget within reach. Along with being the 'feline diviner' of the team she is an author, a poet and a photographer.
Ripplemaker who is a hubber extraordinaire, flits from hub to hub and spreads joy, good will and encouragement to new hubnuggeteers. She has the second sight along with her perfect 20-20 vision.
Zsuzsy Bee, this weeks story-teller, that's me, well to make sure I do not miss the fabulous wannabes on the weekly list I use two crystal balls, which I had built into my very special ‘nugget-picker’ glasses (quite fashionable, don’t you agree?) My story will not have an end to it until you, all of you, who have come for a visit do your reading and voting.
So come on all of you have another hot apple cider or a toddy then read and vote... the new hubnuggeteers and hubnugget wannabes are counting on you...

I forgot to say that this is a wonderful thing for newbies like me. I walked all the week half meter high. It has been a wonderful week. Thanks very very much. And thanks to being a nominee I even arrived twice at 100 with my hub. I really felt a real thing. :)
Love my kerchief, Zsuzsy!
I held the envelope to my forehead and concentrated really hard to see who the winners will be this week. However, I cannot reveal that information until some silver crosses my palm.
Meantime, I voted!
Zsuzsy Bee....VERY entertaining......I enjoyed this! It is interesting to find out about people that I have not heard of (hubbers and Hubpages employees/staffers/contributors). You have a wonderful sense of humor! Best, G
By the way, Zsuzsy, I'm always up for a little mushing as long as I don't have to pull the sled again. Last time, Jason was dragging his feet to make it harder on my poor back!
Good luck to all. It was a hard vote to make! Glad I made time to pop in and read the new hubs!
All of these mental super powers and I was still late to the party! I finally voted. Great hub Zsuzsy!!
Hi, I cast my vote, and really enjoyed reading the newbies. cheers Nell
Wow that was hard! You HubNugget team members are really great, and so are all the wannabes! Although I'm not sure I completely trust that jackalope.
Do you think we might run into part of the Iditarod teams practicing for their event later this winter? And why isn't dogsled race in the Winter Olympics as an event? Enquiring gypsies want to know.
That's a good idea for a book - Gypsies on dog sleds cross-country...
And for this round, I really wanted to vote for at least four Wannabes - it was hard to narrow it down to one, most certainly.
Welcome all, to the igloo! It's a bit of a hike in to Vancouver from here, but the dogs are raring to run, and there's lots of parking this far from the games site!
We have warm toques and mukluks enough for all!
Great new year treat... a job well done Zsuzsy...
Just voted and goodluck wannabes...
What a fun name - Hubnugget Wannabe! As a newbie to Hubpages, I'm super grateful to be nominated and am honored to be in such good company.
Zsuzsy, I enjoyed my reading this morning and I am having a difficult time deciding which hub to vote. Lots of great hubs really. I know each one is already a winner. Anyhow, this gypsy is all done and warm congratulations given to our Hubnugget Wannabes! :)
I had a great holidays with the family. Thanks Zsuzsy! I hope you a fantastic one. Hugs.....
97 votes already! Woohoo..keep those votes coming. The more votes, the merrier! Thanks everyone for voting and supporting the Hubnuggets!!!
Whhheeee I'm so excited to go and visit the hubs now. I love being a gypsy! You rock Zsuzsy! And everyone looks so cool too! (rub hands in delight)...
Congratulations to all the Hubnugget Wannabes! Keep promoting and asking your friends to vote. Happy new year!!!!
Thank you for the nomination. Hope everyone has fun on hubpages and can learn something new that they can use.
See, I knew I screwed up when I signed up for this thing 14 months ago and only started using it a couple weeks ago. Does Doh! apply here? :) This looks like it'll be a fun stop.
Congrats and Good Luck to you all from a former HubNugget'er
Wow! I've only been on here a week and didn't think I'd receive so much attention on an article I wrote, just giving my step-by-step advice. Thanks for the nomination! This really inspires me to write more quality hubs.
Madame Zsuzsy Bee, your predictive page is a predilection of purrfection -- predictively! And as some Russians say, I am keeping every one of my eyes on these great hubs and the new writers here at HubPages each week.
I vote we set up tents with Shirley Anderson at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics next month and make big bucks while we review all the events for HubPages. The Troika of Gypsies will deliver the goods and the 4-foot partners can attract in the patrons with magnetism. Much fun for all, gravy included.
I am very honored to be on the list! Thank you Hubbers!
After much consideration, I have cast my vote. Good luck to all!
Voted!
Very funny stuff Zsuzsy, you've got my attention. I should be sleeping now but instead I will be reading one or two of the hubs above and see if what will be will be...
"Once upon a time, in the deepest, deepest, scariest and darkest jungles of California , (I’m referring to the urban jungle of course) on Minna Street in San Francisco, to be exact.."
That was rich! lol
Voted! Love your pics Zsuzsy Bee :).
Voted, not for me of course. It's an honor to be in this list, whatever the position. Thanks for it.
Awesome Hub Zsuzsy!
Well done Hubbers!on your nominatuion.
"So come on in and plop your butt on a big cushy pillow ", lololo o.k. Zsuzy you are a nut!!! lolololo I voted and by the way thank you to both you and Ripple hubby is in remission and mom is stable thank you for the prayers. :)
Wow! I have really loved being a part of HubPages as the community just seems so warm and friendly. This however (having an article chosen), is really one of the coolest things ever! Thanks guys! :D
All done good luck to all.
have read all the articles and voted already, thanks, maita
I have voted :-D Good luck everyone! and great job on the hub Zsuzsy!
Hi ZsuZsy, will come back and vote, nice job and great effort too, Have a great new year to you and yours, maita

Hypnodude, I really believe in the hubnuggetry just because it gives new hubbers a chance to see what great hubs can do. I also think having had a hub nominated out of thousands of submissions is a sign of a great hub.
It's quite a thrill when a hub gets a 100 score, and that never stops being exciting. I can vouch for that. I actually took screen shots of my first few.
congrats and keep the great hubs coming.
regards Zsuzsy
